On a beautiful, sunny Saturday afternoon at Princeton, the first half of the match belonged to Brown Women's Rugby team. From making driving tackles to recovering spilled Princeton possessions and weaving through the defense, Brown controlled the pace of the match. Scoring started early in the match with Lucy Fernandez ‘14 picking up quick ball at a breakdown and driving in for a score. The kick was not converted leaving the score at 5-0. Successive scores at 16 and 22 minutes by Jasmine McAdams ‘16 and Saskia “Kiki” Morgan ’16, respectively, saw the score go to 17-0 with one conversion successful. The half time score rose to 24-0 with a final try by Kiki Morgan and a converted kick by Lucy Fernandez. “We started the game attacking from the moment the ball was kicked off,” Kiki Morgan said, “The first half of the game was the most beautiful, unselfish rugby we’ve played all season.”
The second half was a different ball game. Princeton came out fired up and changing tactics to now use the power of their forwards against the undersized Brown forwards. At 43 minutes, Princeton drove a scrum over the line for 5 points, the conversion no good. With the score now 24-5, Brown picked up the pace and answered with 5 points scored off a broken play by Kiki Morgan, putting the score at Brown 29- Princeton 5, with no conversion. And again, Morgan streaked in for another 5 points from back on her own defending 20 meter line upping the score to 34-5.
From then on, it was Princeton's show. At 69 minutes Princeton, using their muscle on the inside, drove the ball into the goal and converted their try for a score of 34-12. Princeton repeated again at 74 minutes for continuing to contest Brown around the breakdown until they scored. In the final minutes of the match Princeton drove in a try from a lineout maul on the 5m leaving the final score at Brown 34 - Princeton 22.
