Brown continued its dominance over Dartmouth beating the Big Green for the 7th consecutive year with a score of 10-0.
The match was played at home in wet conditions and Brown showed good controlled aggression in the loose setting sturdy platforms for scrum half Vanessa Munoz '13 and stealing some key Dartmouth rucks. Captain Michelle Vander Ploeg MAT '13 scored in the 13th minute driving over from a quick ruck to put Brown up 5-0. Center Erica Florenz ’13 missed a difficult kick by inches but Brown looked comfortable and in control.
Brown went from tentative in the first few minutes to dominant in the loose driving the bigger Dartmouth defenders off the ball and unleashing some great strikes. Twenty three minutes in scrum half Vanessa Munoz '13 scored off a great effort - picking from the back of a ruck and diving over for the score. Brown threatened a number of times in the last 10 minutes but could not put points on the board. The half ended with a beautiful long run by first year wing Saskia 'Kiki' Morgan ’16 that brought the ball down to the Dartmouth line. Brown was unable to convert the score but the run put Dartmouth on notice that Brown’s wings could strike hard.
The second half was much like the first with Brown dominating the loose and pressuring the Dartmouth backs. Dartmouth had a difficult time getting out of their own 50 but Brown struggled to finish plays. Brown plays UPenn at home next week and must improve their ability to finish off strikes.
Brown B's 0 - Dartmouth B's 5
The Brown B's showed great promise in a losing effort to a Dartmouth A-B side. The Brown scrum showed great tenacity taking on a big and experienced Green side. First year scrumhalf Amber Reano '16 was fantastic as she led her teammates with example and voice. Flyhalf Monica Roth ’16 showed composure and power directing the line. Monica passed to center Kat Graves '15 who ran with power and authority, dragging a number of Dartmouth defenders. Wing Jasmine McAdams '16 was a terrific surprise as she ran, tackled and inspired her teammates in her first outing as a Brown rugger. Brown was strong throughout the match but showed real heart with minutes left in the match. Down 5-0 Jasmine McAdams ran 60 meters down to the Green 20 meter line. Brown punched their way to the 5 and first year Ebony McCaskill ’16 took a tap and ran through the Dartmouth defense for what seemed to be the tying score, but the ball was knocked in goal and Brown was denied as the final whistle blew.
Next week Brown takes on UPenn at home.
