Brown beat a game but over matched Penn side 75-5 to go to 3-0 in the Ivy League.
Center Erica Florenz ’13 opened the scoring six minutes in splitting the centers and dashing through for the score, Brown 5-Penn 0. Off the ensuing kick-off scrumhalf and captain Vanessa Munoz ’13 passed a nice ball out to wing Patti Ekpo ’15. Patti broke a number of Penn tackles to go 80 meters and score between the post. Erica Florenz converted the kick and Brown led 12-0. Moments later Erica Florenz, who took a nice ball from flyhalf Michelle Vander Ploeg M’13 and burst 60 meters up the middle to score. Erica converted her try and Brown was up 19-0. Erica earned a hat trick 5 minutes later beating her opposite to go in from 20 out, Brown 24-0. In the 22nd minute center Elisha Miles ’15 caught fire scoring the first of her 5 trys to put Bruno up 29-0. Six minutes later Elisha scored off a beautiful switch to go into the goal untouched, Erica Florenz converted and Brown led 36-0. Brown continued to set nice platforms and feed the ball to the backs who punished their Penn counterparts. The backs used nice chips and deep kicks to push Penn deep into their own territory. Captain Vanessa Munoz capitalized off a deep kick and the ensuring ruck. ‘Nay picked off the back of the ruck and dodged through the Penn line to score. Erica Florenz converted and Brown closed out the half up 43-0.
Brown was able to substitute the entire pack at the half without a scoring let down. Center Elisha Miles came out hard, breaking tackles to score from 30 meters out. Erica Florenz converted and Brown was up 50-0. Moments later Elisha caught a nicely timed pass and split the centers, dashing between the posts. Erica converted and Brown was up 57-0. First year wing Saskia ‘Kiki’ Morgan ’16 got her first score in a Brown jersey, breaking tackles and racing 60 meters for the try. Erica converted, Brown 63-0. With 15 minutes left on the match Elisha Miles got her 5th score of the match taking a corner and going up the sideline, Erica converted Brown, 70-0. The final score of the match came with minutes left, first year Ebony McCaskill ’16 fought her way through the defense to score under the post and close out a dominant 75-5 win.
Brown 40-Roger Williams University 5
Moments after beating Penn, Brown took the field to play a tough Roger Williams team. Brown showed little wear as wing Patti Ekpo ’15 ran 60 meters to stun the Hawks defense and put Brown up 5-0. The Brown forwards continued to show patience, setting nice platforms for scrumhalf Vanessa Munoz and controlling the set pieces to feed that backs clean ball. Fourteen minutes in centers Erica Florenz and Elisha Miles ran a well-executed switch to put Elisha through untouched. Erica converted and Brown led 12-0. Wing Allison Hojsak ’14 found the goal 28 minutes in weaving through the Hawk defense to score under the posts. Erica converted, Brown 19-0. With no time left in the half #8 Jessica Sawadago ’14 scored, Erica converted and Brown was up 26-0. Ten minutes into the second half first year wing Jasmine McAdams ’16 broke 3 tackles as she sprinted 60 meters for the score, Erica converted and Brown led 33-0. Fullback Elena Suglia ’15 scooped up a pass and dashed 30 meters for the score. Erica converted and Brown closed out a long day of rugby with a 40-5 win.
Next week Brown hosts Ivy rival Princeton. The first side kicks off at 11:00am at Marvel Field.
